'Uncle Benny' as he's forever known around these ere parts is much maligned in my opinion.
OK, the tv show' descended into the endless 'Benny-Benny -Hill' chases( a victim of his own popularity), but there is gold in them thar hills and it's ceratinly worth re-visiting...I think he was a comic genius meself...
Legendary Seeds vocalist Sky Sunlight Saxon died aged 71(maybe?) on 25th june,2009...I think he best summed up this 'happening' himself:
“Well, I think you could retire when you die. I don't, however, believe in death, so I guess I will retire when I leave my body. But I plan to continue writing and performing in heaven” Sky Sunlight Saxon March 2009
Now Rastarfarianism isn't the first thing you associate with 'madcap' comic genius Russ Abbot, but here is the case for the defence. The legendary 'Burnley Is Babylon' by 'King Wilf and the Rastaplasts'.
So here we find our northern rasta man, 'knitting woolie hats and smoking me herb...'
Here is Radio/Tv Star Kenny Everett with his 'Snot Rap', featuring his infamous character, Sid Snot...brings back good memeories of growing up watching the show. If you can track it down you should check out his feature film, 'Blood bath at the House Of Death', it's a shlock-horror thats well worth a look...incidentally, this record has been featured on various 'worst records ever'...surely some mistake!
Went out to see the play 'Twilight Of The Gods' by Julian Doyle at the 'Courtyard Theatre' last night and very good it was too. However afterwards in the pub this genius cartoon by the legendary Chuck Jones kept popping into my head...
Supposedly withdrawn shortly after it's release, the album has gone on to become a 'cult classic', commanding fees's of up to £200 for an original copy. I'm guessing the LP was withdrawn mainly for the track 'Rape', because the rest of it is fairly innocuous stuff, but, beware for as Jake Thackray used to say 'This song is offensive'.
Well, I suppose I couldn't have one without the other, so here is William Shatner, Captain Kirk himself presenting us with his version of 'It Was A Very Good Year'.
It goes without saying that you should all listen to the Shat's greatest hits...'Spaced Out'
Found here alongside some of Spock's finest warblings....
Mr Spock making sweet music (see above) well certainly, although I'm afraid that 'Spock Thoughts' are not in fact his own but are taken from the famous poem by Max Ehrmann...imagine my disappointment.
So what to do if you're an iconic sixties film star?, well, fly out to LA to record an album with various members of the Byrds is what. 'David Hemmings Happens' was the result, from which this track is taken.
Although Tom Baker was 'my Doctor Who', I have a great affection for Jon Pertwee in the role and looking back at the dandy image and fistfights, there is little wonder. He was great in this role and many other's.
I could probably fill a few weeks worth of posts with Dr Who related tracks but for now I'll stick with this classic from the compilation LP 'Who Is Dr Who'.
