Born in Burnley, but living in a remote part of Scotland where the telly was unwatchable after teatime most evenings, owing to a poor transmitter signal in the 1990s.
ReplyDeleteBurnley is Babylon was on his excellent 'Madhouse' show. I simply couldn't believe this dope-themed song was on early evening TV.
And it really is a true to life tune. In 1980s Burnley, the sheer numbers of dope smokers, the pub whereby it was as close to being at an Amsterdam coffee house. Five to ten pub goers 'skinning-up' at the same time. The huge extractor fan and total lack of violence. The 4am lock-ins. Nothing much has changed. Driving through many areas, you can get stoned for free. The skunk fumes are so strong.
Nowadays, most pubs simply tolerate the dope smokers. In the eighties? Nah, only in Burnley, which was indeed Babylon...
