Burnley Is Babylon-Russ Abbot

Now Rastarfarianism isn't the first thing you associate with 'madcap' comic genius Russ Abbot, but here is the case for the defence. The legendary 'Burnley Is Babylon' by 'King Wilf and the Rastaplasts'.
So here we find our northern rasta man, 'knitting woolie hats and smoking me herb...'
Ee Bah Gum indeed...

  1. Born in Burnley, but living in a remote part of Scotland where the telly was unwatchable after teatime most evenings, owing to a poor transmitter signal in the 1990s.
Burnley is Babylon was on his excellent 'Madhouse' show. I simply couldn't believe this dope-themed song was on early evening TV.
And it really is a true to life tune. In 1980s Burnley, the sheer numbers of dope smokers, the pub whereby it was as close to being at an Amsterdam coffee house. Five to ten pub goers 'skinning-up' at the same time. The huge extractor fan and total lack of violence. The 4am lock-ins. Nothing much has changed. Driving through many areas, you can get stoned for free. The skunk fumes are so strong.
Nowadays, most pubs simply tolerate the dope smokers. In the eighties? Nah, only in Burnley, which was indeed Babylon...
