Witches Brew-Come On And Zoom

Don't know much about this US kids TV show, Come On And Zoom, but the soundtrack is great and includes this seasonal track 'Witches Brew'. I'll post a few more tracks from this album at some future point as it is most worthwhile!

The Mummy-Bobby McFadden+Dor, I'm A Mummy-The Fall

Two versions of 'The Mummy'. First the original by Bobby McFadden and Dor, the second by The Fall from their album 'Levitate'. Both great, both quite different. Nice to see Mark E. Smith doing a bit of method acting and really getting into the role. (see above)

Witches Song (I Am Your Pussy)-Gong

So here is Daevid Allen again, this time with 'Gong' and the classic ol' 'Flying Teapot' album. Somehow I remember this from being very young, but can't remember where from...maybe the radio? or maybe just the vibrations in the air, man. Great artwork too as well as top song. Very appropriate.

Corn Rigs+Maypole Song-The Wicker Man OST

'Killing me won't bring back your apples'.

Such were the prophetic end lines from Mr Equaliser himself, Edward Woodwood in cult classic 'The Wicker Man'. I guess nearly everyone has seen this film (if you haven't then buy it!), but I would also advise you to check out the soundtrack from which these two tracks are from. Great all year round and not just Halloween.

Ten Foot Two Eyes Of Glue+Ghoulin Around-Cool Ghoul

Dick Von Hoene otherwise known as 'The Cool Ghoul' on his late night US TV show, 'Scream In'. I never saw the show in the UK but I'm guessing it was showing re-runs of old Horror movies and the like and I'm fairly sure I would have enjoyed it! These two tracks are from his spin-off album 'The Cool Ghoul's Phantasmagorical Funky Fonograf Record'.

Horror Business-The Misfits

Too much Horror business, not in this context or here with a classic early single from American Horror-Punk band 'The Misfits'. Can't say I'm a massive fan of the band but this track 'kicks ass' as our American friends would probably say and fits the bill perfectly.

Psycho-Eddie Noak

Another great track from the Wavy Gravy comps. Here we have Eddie Noak with his homage to Hitchcock's 'Psycho'. Great lyrics with wonderfully predictable ending. The teaser for 'Vampire Playgirls' is great too..'Those vampire's can bite my flesh any time!' Indeed!

Dracula's Deuce+Coffin Nails+Monsterbilly Heaven-The Ghouls

Surfing and surf albums were massive back in the day, but a horror surf spin-off album? That's what we've got here with 'The Ghouls' and 'Dracula's Deuce'. Lots of fun to be had by basically replacing the words School, Fool etc with Ghoul and changing the titles of famous surf song's as in 'The Little Old Lady From Transylvania'. A fun record!

Creature From Outer Space-Sonny Day

Great sound effects and odd timings on this blast from the past. I suppose Creatures From Outer Space can be included in Halloween festivities these days...and as is often the case, the creature isn't as bad as first feared!

Black Sabbath-Coven

Taken from their 1969 album 'Witchcraft Destroys Minds And Reaps Souls' comes 'Black Sabbath. Not to be confused with 'Black Sabbath' by 'Black Sabbath' mind(Although they did feature a 'Oz Osborne' in their line-up, though not thee Oz, spooky and confusing eh?. This is something a bit more 'West Coast'. Hailing from Chicago I guess 'Coven' were one of the first rock bands to take on board the occult symbolism and to identify it as their image. In the end the album was banned after being caught up and referenced in the Charlie Manson murders...and the came thee 'Sabbath' to do it big time!

Stoned innocent Frankentsein-Daevid Allen

Daevid Allen 'of Soft Machine and Gong' here with a freakie Frankenstein track from his 1970 album 'Bananamoon'.

Not quite sure what it was with 'the Canterbury set'and banana's...guess it was a 70's thing...great track though and great cover also! We may get another 'Allen' related track before this Halloween's out...any guesses?

Slide Her Under The Door-Moses Longpiece

Here is another gem from the Wavy Gravy compilation albums and in being so features a short,crude preamble about necrophilia with an old Hag. The main track concerns a lost love...lost under a steam roller, hence the title...by the way, do you think 'Moses Longpiece' was the guy's real name? I'd liked to think so.

Pearls Before Swine-Boyd Rice

Industrial maestro Boyd Rice doing what Boyd Rice does best after a hard day 'at it'. Great piece of music from his film 'Pearls Before Swine'. You could do worse than watch it.

Exorcism-Mort Garson

We'll certainly be hearing more from the superb Mort Garson after this halloween-fest, but here's a little taster from his 'Black Mass Lucifer' album-Exorcism.

Two tracks taken from 'Scientist Rids The World of the Evil Curse Of the Vampires' Recorded in King Tubby's studio and later to feature in the soundtrack to Grand theft Auto 3 to some controversy as Mr Scientist didn't receive a penny..

Spider and the Fly-The Monocles

An old, old favourite of mine here,Spider and the Fly by The Monocles. You can find it on the superb Pebbles Comp Vol 3, one of my very favourite records of all time I suppose! Off the top of my head I seem to remember the exact same backing track being used with different lyrics...something like 'come with me down the diamond mine'...i'll have to dig it out.

Anyhow, this track is sure to enliven any Halloween party!

Rubber Room-Porter Wagoner

Here is Porter Wagoner showing us his National Wild Turkey Federation(at least that's what I think it says) belt buckle. No wonder they threw him in the 'Rubber Room',thee ol' coot!. A great track of mental breakdown. And with this version being taken from the infamous Wavy Gravy comp we get a snippet of 'Vault of Horror; which fits the bill perfectly. Great tag line in 'We have all the things that make life worth...leaving'

Riboflavin Flavored, Non Carbonated, Poly-Unsaturated Blood-Don Higson and the Rigamorticians

Off the back of Bobby Pickett's monster smash, the 'Monster Mash' came this cash in album, Monster Dance Party. Of course it has a cover of the Monster Mash and many other similar 'monster based song', the swim, the jerk etc...make your own up!, but the standout track is this one, 'Riboflavin Flavored, Non Carbonated, Poly-Unsaturated Blood'.
