A Day In The Life-Big Daddy

A slight diversion here. Seeing as everyone and their mother are jumping on the Beatles bandwagon to promote the remastered albums, I thought I'd go along with it and post some of my favourite Beatles covers...and who know's, maybe 'they'll' send me the mono and stereo box set along with a copy of Beatles rockband game and other merchandise...

So first up we've got one of my very favourites, Big Daddy (no not that one) with his clever cover of perhaps the greatest Beatles song? 'A Day In The Life'. See what he's done here is transpose the lyrics onto a Buddy Holly/50's style track that works really well. Turn it up at the end for an alternate final chord...

The Grassy Knoll+A Whale Of A Tale+The Vegetable Song-Frances Baskerville

Three tracks, count em', three tracks of total genius from Frances Baskerville, the singing psychic. Just love Frances' vocals and the lyrics, must be great being psychic and having access to differing plains of existence an all..wonder what she's up to now?
P.s- Wonder if she 'found' the melody from Bobby Gentry's 'Ode To Billy Joe' before she did?
P.p.s-I know many people are vegatarian but what if vegetables have souls/'feelings' too?...Frances touches on this tender topic in the Vegetable Song.

Once Upon A Time-Robert Powell

OK, now I know he was Jesus, that's fine, but there's really no need for this...speechless...

Rats In My Room+Yo-Ho The Crow-Leona Anderson

I think the crown 'The Worlds Most Horrible Singer' as stated on the sleeve notes, is a little cruel to Leona, even if she 'worked it' and that's how they were selling her talent. Here are two of my favourite tracks from the album,'Rats In My Room' and 'Yo-Ho The Crow', both amply demonstrate Leona's full range and vocal style whilst being jolly little tunes in their own right. Sing on!

Your Love Is Real-Ron Griffin

What's the best way to rise to stardom in the pop world?,why to sing your song down the phone to the record company boss' answer machine! Everyone knows that!!!
So here's Ron with his song of love (duh-duh-dang duh-duh dang-there's a big part of me in you...etc)
It's a touching story of loneliness that I could easily see Robbie Williams or somesuch covering...please stick around for the end for one of the best pay-off lines ever!

Octopus Woman Let Me Go+Your Bodys Making Eyes At Me-Dick Kent

Two tracks from the 'song-poem' star, Dick Kent. We featured 'Peace and Love(Blind Mans Penis)' early on in this blog, so if you haven't heard that check it out, as it's the daddy of this genre.
Octopus Woman however is an epic tale of,well,an Octopus Woman and what happened on the beach at the sea. Full of suspense and just a hint of terror, you'll never look at an Octopus or a woman in the same way again.
'Your Bodies Making Eyes At Me' is a love song. A great concept for a love song, suprised Bonnie Tyler or Meatloaf didn't come up with this first. I guess she had a really great body...

Do You Think I'm Sexy-Mark Savage

An absolute cracker here from 'Brother' Mark Savage. I'm guessing from the intro that this is from some kind of church gathering which makes it all the more wonderful. Mark certainly puts in a high octane performance featuring squeals from both himself and guitar, which at times give the impression that he's going to explode from his 'sexyness'.
The lad is certainly full of spunk! Top Mark's.
